Deschampsia antarctica (Antarctic hair grass) is one of two flowering plants native to Antarctica, the other being Colobanthus quitensis (Antarctic pearlwort). Due to a recent warming trend, more seeds are germinating, creating a large number of seedlings and plants. Reports indicate a twenty-five-fold increase in plants as a result which has caused these plants to extend their range southward and cover more extensive areas. This species extends south of 56 degrees south latitude.
