A tripoint (also known as trijunction or triple point or trifinium or triune point or triplex confinium) is a geographical point at which the borders (or the territories) of three countries or subnational entities meet. Although there are many different ways of reckoning countries, tripoints, and tricountry points, which all together thus produce a wide range of supposedly global grand totals, nevertheless it can be observed that there are currently 176 places in the world where the boundaries (or the territories) of three member states of the United Nations converge, if not in a simple tripoint (whether agreed or disputed or theoretical), then in a triline or triarea (in those few cases where territorial overlaps aka condominiums occur). Often a tripoint is a site of special border markings and memorials.
Usually, the more neighbours a country has, the more international tripoints that country has. China with 16 tripoints and Russia with 11 lead the list of states by number of tripoints. Within Europe landlocked Austria has nine tripoints. Island countries except for Bahrain and Singapore have no international tripoints, nor have states with only one neighbour state, like Portugal or Denmark. Likewise the United States with two neighbour states has no international tripoints; but it has as many as 85 secondary or federative tripoints (points where three or more state or federal territories meet).
The 176 trijunctions produced by United Nations member states (arranged alphabetically in iso 3166-2 country codes, with directional suffixes added to distinguish 10 sets of twins) are as follows:

Of these, the 3 kymotn tripoints (east, middle, west) are a unique set of triple tristate points, although the dcmdva twins and mdusva together also comprise a unique triad of federal state line tripoints.
